Christie Powell "CP", MSPT, STS, USSF D

CP is the owner and Director of Champion Performance Physical Therapy, formerly Catz Sports Performance and Physical Therapy. CP was a Westwood high school athlete in soccer, basketball and volleyball. She played collegiate soccer and softball at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio and has since been inducted to their hall of fame for her success as an athlete and her exceptional accomplishments in her community since her graduation in 1996. In 2001 she received her Masters in Physical Therapy from Texas State University.

She is currently writing her dissertation on the use of functional performance measures to predict injury to the lower extremity in soccer players. It is based on a comprehensive test battery she designed, and uses in the clinic, as a pre-participation screening tool to assess when a player is ready to return to sport.  Her PhD will be in Kinesiology/Movement Science from The University of Texas at Austin.

CP works with several local physicians to offer free injury assessments and injury prevention seminars throughout the year and recently contributed a Special Topics chapter “Functional Measures for Lower Extremity Injuries: A Guide to a Safe Return to Sport” in the Handbook of Orthopaedic Rehabilitation 3rd edition with local orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brent Brotzman.

CP’s passion and experience as a collegiate athlete allows her to relate with her patients and create unique relationships that last well beyond their sporting careers!
